Thank You for Joining Our Workshop!

Before I share the workshop highlights, I would like to thank everyone who participated in my Taisho-Inspired Kimono Bow Workshop at Anime North. It was a wonderful experience, and I truly enjoyed meeting so many new people who share an interest in Japanese culture, fashion, and creativity.

A Community Effort

As many small business owners know, running an event alone can be challenging. This workshop was no exception.

Since I was managing everything by myself, I was incredibly grateful for the support I received from both the participants and the Anime North staff. Many people kindly helped with setting up the room and making sure everything was ready before the workshop began.

To make things even more memorable, I accidentally left my phone at my vendor booth and didn’t have it with me during the workshop. As a result, I wasn’t able to take any photos of the event myself.

Thankfully, several participants and Anime North staff members took photos and generously shared them with me afterward. Their kindness allowed me to preserve these memories and share them with all of you today. I sincerely appreciate their thoughtfulness and support.

Every Bow Told a Different Story

One of my favorite moments during the workshop was watching everyone choose their kimono fabrics.

Participants selected from a variety of traditional kimono patterns, colors, and textures. Although everyone followed the same basic steps, no two bows turned out exactly alike.

Each bow reflected the creator’s own personality and style. Some participants chose elegant and traditional combinations, while others experimented with bold colors and unexpected pattern pairings. Seeing so many different interpretations of the same design reminded me how creativity can transform a simple project into something deeply personal.

Finding Inspiration Through Creativity

As the creator of the workshop, I was surprised by how much inspiration I received from the participants.

When making bows myself, I often gravitate toward familiar patterns and color combinations. However, during the workshop, I saw many pairings that I would never have thought to combine on my own.

Some participants mixed patterns in unexpected ways, creating beautiful and balanced designs that challenged my own assumptions. It reminded me that creativity often comes from trying something new and viewing materials from a different perspective.

The workshop became a learning experience not only for the participants but also for me.

Sharing Japanese Culture Through Handmade Creations

The Taisho era was a fascinating period in Japanese history, blending traditional aesthetics with modern influences. Through this workshop, I hoped to share a small piece of that cultural inspiration while giving participants the opportunity to create something unique with their own hands.

Each finished bow became more than just an accessory. It became a reflection of the participant’s creativity and a small connection to Japanese textile traditions.

Thank You

Thank you again to everyone who joined the workshop, helped with setup, shared photographs, and supported Tokita Kobo.

Events like these remind me why I started this business: to share Japanese culture, craftsmanship, and creativity with others.

I look forward to hosting more workshops in the future and creating new opportunities for people to experience the beauty of kimono fabrics firsthand.

Until next time,

Tokita Kobo
