Welcome to Tokita Kobo Blog

Only one for you with Kimono culture

The season for Graduation from schools is coming!

We have a different education system in Japan from Canada, which is schools begin from April and end in March. In March, there are a lot of graduation ceremonies under the cherry blossoms.

Some high schools and universities, students wear Kimono and Hakama. Hakama are usually worn in martial arts such as Kyudo(弓道) and Kendo(剣道). Hakama is a set of trousers based on Kimono fabric. The image of women in kimono and hakama are culturally associated with school teachers.

Actually, many women reused kimono from age-coming-ceremony in January and they keep it for the graduation ceremony following a year. You can see the photo above, the top is the same as kimono. So they rent or buy only Hakama to attend the ceremonies.

We celebrate their graduation and hope they can do well on the new stages.

We have a lot of craft products based on Kimono fabric.
